Things are starting to settle down now after the yearling sale week and the flurry of yearlings arriving here

for Agistment post the Adelaide sale.

Business as usual for us. However visits are restricted to arrivals and departures of horses

and deliveries of fodder etc. for the forseable future to protect our racing folk .

A big thankyou to all the purchasers of our yearlings at the 2020 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

The team were very busy showing yearlings and we sold all but one at the sale.

Ralph Satchell, Luke Pannell, Dianne Nesbitt and Tim Satchell

We sadly inform all, that Host was euthanized on humane grounds,

last Thursday afternoon.

A great character, he will be missed by all at Willow Grove Stud.

Foaled in 2000, he was a multiple Group 1 winner,

has sired 6 SW's and over $12 mill in progeny earnings, 60% W/R.

Thankyou to all those breeders who supported Host

while he resided at Willow Grove Stud.

Thank you to all the wellwishers and offers of help over the last few days.

Willow Grove Stud was not directly impacted by the fires on Friday but it was a close call .

The main fire front impacted the town of Woodside about a km north of us and the other side

of the town mostly.

Ralph, Tim and Brett did fight the flank of the fire as it moved across our neighbour's property

with our own fire fighting unit and helped by Ryan, Matt and Tiff who drove up from Morphettville.

The CFS did arrive and help us extinguish it completely. Our efforts were greatly helped by

the Strawberry farm behind us being a good fire break, and our neighbour directly to the north having a

low fuel load in his back paddocks. This neighbour's efforts in stopping the fire from running up the river

corridor trees behind his house was also critical in the fire not entering our property.

Horses had already been moved out of the dry paddocks and consolidated onto the Irrigated paddocks

with both bores running to several irrigation lines and big gun sprinklers.

Our neighbour at Mount Pleasant checked on the yearlings while we were cut off by road

closures, and the fire was stopped well before getting to the Yearling Farm.

Mint Lane (USA) has relocated to Glen Eden Stud in Victoria for 2019.

Thankyou to all those people who have used him in the past

and have raced his stock.

We wish his new connections well.
