Willow Grove Stud is situated in the heart of South Australian horse breeding country, near the picturesque town of Woodside

in the lush Onkaparinga Valley. This area of the Adelaide Hills comprises well drained river flats and gently undulating country.

The area enjoys an average yearly rainfall of about 840mm (33 inches) with good underground water providing irrigation during

the summer months for mares and foals, and spelling racehorses.

The property has been developed for over 40 years by the Satchell family to become one of the most established and respected

Studs in South Australia. Over the years it has stood many successful stallions such as Native Prince(USA), Holborn (Ire),

Blazing Saddles, Stargazer (NZ) , Keepers, Centre Stalls(Ire), Mugharreb (USA), Clangalang, Mint Lane (USA) and Host (CHI).

The 200 acre property is also home to 15 to 20 broodmares, that have fed the tracks of South Australia and beyond, with

numerous winners in recent seasons. Willow Grove Stud can proudly claim to have sold 256 individual winners of 930 races

through the Adelaide Sales as of March 2020. 

Willow Grove Stud has won numerous awards including SA Leading Breeder, SA Leading Stallion, SA Best Performed Horse,

Leading SA 2YO, SA Horse Of The Year Finalist, SABOIS 2YO Premiership, SA Racing Rewards leading 3YO, SABOIS Breeders Premiership,

and SA Racing Rewards Breeders Premiership.

In 2020 at The Horse Of The Year Dinner, Willow Grove Stud was awarded the prestigious Matrice Award.

In June 2016 Willow Grove Stud purchased another property, in the big gum country between Birdwood and Mount Pleasant.

Formally a cattle grazing farm it has been fully developed to grow our Weanlings/Yearlings. It has met with immediate success

with the first crop grown there producing the multiple Group 3 winning 2YO Tequila Time and Stakeswinner Platinum Life.
